The Absurdity of What We Assume Keeps Us Safe
We must "rethink" in order to achieve "true safety and security"
I read articles, daily, that basically congratulate individuals, products, and services that enhance safety and security, primarily in schools. The majority of them just cause me to shake my head with concern. Why? Because we just keep promoting and spending money on things that look and sound good but do little-to-nothing when it comes to really enhancing safety and security. Things that have been "generally accepted", "industry standard", and the best one is "best practices". Who exactly determines a "best practice"? Especially something that is so unique and dynamic as an act-of-violence?
We must reconsider what safety and security really mean and how to achieve it.
So, this will be a new series in which I will inform you of the problems with every solution that I find that doesn't make sense and I will explain why.
