"We've Lived Here Our Entire Lives And Nothing Has Never Happened"
One of the primary reasons for not taking steps to prevent and prepare
I hear it over and over again. It was way too common when I was in law enforcement and responded to a call-for-service for a break-in or burglary. The first question I would ask is:
“Were your doors locked?”
Common response:
“No. That’s why we live here. We shouldn’t have to lock our doors”.
It’s amazing to me how many people are not secure simply because they never thought it would, or even could, happen because of where they live! “I’ve lived here my entire life and I’ve never had a problem”. Do you really believe that because it never has happened, it never will happen? Especially today?
Something else to consider:
Even if you were right that you have nothing to worry about where you live, the questions are:
Do you always stay where you live?
Do you ever venture outside of your home, neighborhood, or community?
Have you ever gone anywhere where your surroundings were completely foreign to you, or it was clearly outright threatening to your security?
Those who never think that it can or will happen and therefore do nothing to prepare become the most likely victims. Why? Because content and unprepared are completely obvious to those who may be looking to victimize you.
